Crochet Club

Person enjoying the crochet clubCrocheting and knitting used to be a favorite activity of many of our day campers, but it becomes more and more difficult as their vision loss worsens.  Thankfully, a few incredibly talented volunteers have joined our program.  Volunteers Kim Mason, Diane Doherty, and Beverly Shimada work with an enthusiastic group of visually impaired individuals to re-establish their knitting and crocheting skills, or teach them to new participants, while also providing an outlet for socializing.

In addition, our clients gain a sense of accomplishment through the Club as many of their creations are donated to Blankie Depot (formerly Project Linus NJ), a local volunteer organization that provides handmade blankets and more to children suffering from serious illness and trauma.

SPECIAL NOTICE

We are in need of volunteers for our crochet club who would be able to assist our blind and visually impaired individuals with their crocheting.  The club meets on Wednesdays from 10:30 a.m. to approximately 12:00 p.m. each week.  Most of our clients already know how to crochet but get into difficulty at times and need that extra little help.  The items that are crocheted are most often donated to Project Linus to disperse to hospitals and needy families for infants and children.

Donations of new skeins/spools of yarn (no wool, please) and other supplies are greatly appreciated!  Please click here for more info.
